Located on the shores of the Caspian Sea, Baku is a strategic venue for discussing urban planning, said Clara Brugada, Mayor of Mexico City, during the joint opening session of assemblies at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
According to Report, she recalled that the next World Urban Forum will be held in Mexico in 2028, highlighting the city's rich historical heritage: "In this sense, our people are a valuable source of ideas for this topic."
Brugada emphasized that more than 100 countries are represented at WUF13, where delegates are discussing one of the most fundamental issues for humanity's future: "Our message is to create a movement, to address issues from local perspectives, to tackle urgent matters requiring pragmatic solutions for large cities, and to explore mechanisms that influence the global economy. Today, social inequality is one of the most pressing problems in the world. We need radical change on this issue."
She called on participants to unite in this effort: "Let us build our cities to meet even the smallest needs of babies, children, women, the elderly – in short, everyone."
Finally, the mayor expressed gratitude to the Government of Azerbaijan for its high‑level organization and hospitality.
