Mercociudades network proposes joining forces with MINURVI to advance urban agenda

The Mercociudades Network of Cities (the largest network of local governments in South America) formulated its position on the New Urban Agenda for the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), Lautaro Lorenzo, executive secretary of the Mercociudades Network of Local Governments in South America, said at the Forum of Ministers and High Authorities of Housing and Urban Development of Latin America and the Caribbean (MINURVI) at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), Report informs.

"The next MINURVI Assembly will be held in Canelones in December 2026. In this context, we would like to establish cooperation between MINURVI and the Mercociudades Assembly. The previous Assembly brought together 500 local governments in the region, so this will be a highly significant platform. WUF13 represents an important opportunity, which Uruguay represents. For WUF13, we called on our cities to formulate a position on the new urban agenda and on accelerating housing solutions, as Latin America has a wealth of concrete experience in this area. I believe we, as cities, have much to offer in terms of how to remove barriers and accelerate this process," stated Lorenzo.

The XXXIV General Assembly of MINURVI was held in Bridgetown, Barbados, last year.
