Massa Kone: 'With expensive development concepts we are leading planet to abyss'

Instead of sustainable development, the planet is being driven toward the abyss by expensive development concepts that make it impossible for the poor to live and are forced into exile, Habitat International Coalition member Massa Kone said at an event at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that communities living in low-income neighborhoods with insufficient incomes are increasingly being left behind by development.

"Cities are growing, villages are turning into urban neighborhoods, but some people's financial means are not compatible with this lifestyle. If city construction is outsourced to giant companies with deep pockets, they will only build concrete, while simple communities, lacking financial means and having lived on these lands since ancient times, continue to live through economic activity," he said.
