WUF13 is crucial for reassessing the critical steps required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals over the next five years, Malaysian Minister of Housing and Local Government and current President of the Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Nga Kor Ming, said at the Ministerial Meeting on the New Urban Agenda, held at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
"First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the Government of Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat for convening this important discussion at such a crucial time for the global urban agenda. The theme of this year's World Urban Forum – 'Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities' – serves as a reminder that decent and affordable housing is not a purely technical issue. It is the foundation of sustainable development.
As President of the UN-Habitat Assembly, I would like to emphasize the need to translate our global commitments into concrete, practical actions at the national and local levels, emphasizing the importance of localizing the new urban agenda," the minister stated.
According to the minister, today's discussions, as well as the upcoming high-level midterm review in New York, play a key role in reconsidering the fundamental measures that need to be taken to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals over the next five years.
