Lasha Abashidze: Baku-Tbilisi rail link crucial for Georgia

The restoration of the Baku–Tbilisi–Baku passenger railway route is of exceptional importance for Georgia, the General Director of Georgian Railway, Lasha Abashidze, told journalists at the Tbilisi Railway Station, Report informs.

He noted that the Baku–Tbilisi service had not been operating for six years, and starting today, the train has resumed running on this route.

"This is a very joyful event for us. Overall, this service is of great importance for Georgia, as transport links are being restored, and trips will be carried out daily," he said.

According to Abashidze, demand for the route is quite high, and a large number of tickets were sold within just a few days. The general director also emphasized that the Georgian side worked actively together with Azerbaijani colleagues on restoring the service.

"Starting today, services in the Baku–Tbilisi and Tbilisi–Baku directions will operate daily," he added.
