Kazakh finance minister links Middle Corridor development to EDB new opportunities

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has begun substantive consultations on the possible accession of Mongolia to its membership, Kazakhstan's Minister of Finance and Deputy Chairman of the Bank's Council Madi Takiyev said during the plenary session "Eurasia 2030+: Investments, Growth and New Opportunities" at the EDB Annual Meeting and Business Forum, Report informs.

According to him, the bank continues to expand the geography of cooperation and strengthen its international presence.

"This year, the accession of the Sultanate of Oman to the EDB is expected. Negotiations with Mongolia have also been initiated. The bank's network of foreign representative offices is expanding, which opens new horizons for the implementation of breakthrough and transparent projects in the interests of all participants," Takiyev noted.

He expressed confidence that in the coming decade, the EDB will be able to strengthen its position as one of the key development institutions of the region.

"The bank faces an ambitious task - to become a leading platform that determines the vector of economic development of Eurasia," the minister emphasized.

The EDB is also conducting substantive consultations on the possible accession of Azerbaijan to the bank. As part of this process, an EDB delegation visited Baku on an official visit in 2025.

Speaking about the transport agenda, Takiyev noted that the development of the Middle Corridor and its integration with the global Belt and Road Initiative creates additional opportunities for unlocking the potential of international North-South and East-West transport routes.

"A number of major investment projects are being implemented in these areas, including with the participation of the EDB and other international financial institutions," he added.
