Indonesian envoy to Baku calls Karabakh example of sustainable post-conflict development

Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Berlian Helmy has stated that Karabakh is an example of how post-conflict challenges can be transformed into opportunities for sustainable development, Report informs.

The diplomat made the statement at a panel session on climate challenges and urban solutions in fragile and conflict-affected regions at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

He stated that Indonesia welcomes efforts to promote an integrated approach to climate resilience and "peace-positive" recovery and reconstruction.

"We view the proposed Smart, Sustainable Settlements for Safe Return Package (4SRP) as an important framework for addressing the interrelated challenges of climate change, peacebuilding, and sustainable urban development in fragile contexts. Indonesia fully supports this initiative," Helmy emphasized.

The ambassador also praised the reconstruction and construction work underway in Karabakh.

"I visited Karabakh and was impressed by the rapid pace of transformation in the region. These efforts exemplify the innovative and inclusive recovery promoted by UN-Habitat and demonstrate how post-conflict challenges can be transformed into opportunities for sustainable development," the diplomat noted.

He added that Indonesia remains committed to supporting dialogue, sharing experiences, and international cooperation on climate-resilient and peace-positive urban solutions.
