A large share of future construction will be driven by informal housing (slums), said Gulnara Roll, Head of the Secretariat of the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC), during the Business Assembly at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
She noted the scale of this trend will be enormous: "These communities have limited financial resources, which is why they rely on cheaper materials. However, the costs of coping with floods, heavy rains, and extreme heat will eventually be borne by these vulnerable groups. As a result, what seems affordable housing today will become more expensive over time."
Roll highlighted that 38% of GlobalABC members come from the private sector, representing 380 organizations: "Governments, researchers, cities, and the private sector all collaborate within this alliance. We have eight thematic working groups and centers that jointly develop products and pilot projects at a very practical level."
