German company Nfident GmbH is holding negotiations with the governments of Azerbaijan and Georgia regarding potential cooperation, Nfident"s Business Development Manager Werner Peeters told Report on the sidelines of the "Black Sea-Caspian Logistics Forum 2025: Corridors, Cargo, Infrastructure" in Baku.
According to Peeters, two weeks ago, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Kazakhstan"s Port of Kuryk and is also in talks with customs authorities in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
"The Middle Corridor has already become an integral part of future cargo transport between China and Europe. However, it faces challenges related to limited infrastructure capacity-both rail and maritime," he said.
Peeters explained that cargo from China to Europe must cross two seas - the Caspian and the Black Sea - which slows movement. To address this, Nfident is planning to develop a digital platform that integrates all supply chain participants, including ports such as Aktau, Kuryk, Batumi, Poti, and Constanta.
He stressed that the focus should not only be on the ports themselves but also on the inland territories behind the ports, which play a crucial role in ensuring efficient cargo flows.
Touching on the Zangazur Corridor (TRIPP) project, Peeters emphasized Baku's strategic importance:
"Cargo arrives from Aktau, Kuryk, and Turkmenbashi-all heading to one point: Baku. This week, we held talks with the Port of Baku on its expansion and possible integration of our solutions. The port is clearly preparing to increase its capacity. This will require digitalization to manage the growing cargo volume from China and other countries," he noted.
He added that Turkmenistan, for example, exports LNG and also requires efficient logistics, making Baku a key hub in the transit chain. From there, cargo continues to Georgia, moving through Batumi and Poti ports.
