Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur have been assessed by experts as among the most mine-contaminated areas in the world.
Report informs that Fuad Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, said this at an event held as part of WUF13 in Baku.
According to him, Armenia completely destroyed settlements in Azerbaijan's territories during the occupation.
"Armenia refuses to provide mine maps in full. As a result, hundreds of people have been killed or seriously injured in mine explosions from 2020 to this day," Huseynov said.
He noted that settlements in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur are now being built based on the concepts of smart village, smart city, green energy and modern urbanization.
"General plans for 91 settlements in 12 districts, including 11 cities, have been approved in a short period. This is one of the rare and unique cases in the architectural and urban planning practice of the Middle East region," he added.
