First test cargo transportation via e-CMR from Azerbaijan to Türkiye, Russia expected by year-end

The first test cargo transportation from Azerbaijan to Türkiye and Russia using the e-CMR electronic consignment note is projected to be carried out before the end of the current year, Secretary General of the International Association of Road Carriers of Azerbaijan (ABADA) Kanan Gurbanov said during the fifth Black and Caspian Freight Forum 2026 in Baku, Report informs.

Gurbanov noted that Azerbaijan, along with several other countries, has acceded to the Additional Protocol to the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR) concerning the electronic consignment note (e-CMR).

"At present, intensive work is underway with two main partners - Türkiye and Russia. We expect the first test transportation using e-CMR to be implemented before the end of this year. We are talking about one of the most important documents in the field of international road freight transport. In addition, last month, the first pilot transportation based on the e-TIR digital system was successfully carried out. This is an international document within the Customs Convention, and the first e-TIR transit operation was performed on the route between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. At the next stage, which we are currently working on, we plan to launch a similar e-TIR transportation jointly with Türkiye," he stated.
