Faiq Gurbanov: Regions can lead clean and climate-resilient shift

Regions can become the driving force of clean transformation and climate resilience, Faig Gurbatov, head of the Bilasuvar District Executive Authority, said at the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments held within the framework of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), Report informs.

He emphasized that the initiatives voiced at the event demonstrate that regions traditionally associated with agriculture can also become the driving force of clean transformation and climate resilience:

"The Bilasuvar Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 445 MW is an important component of Azerbaijan's green energy strategy. I would particularly like to emphasize that this project also has a significant social impact. During the construction phase of the plant, more than 1,000 local residents were provided with employment opportunities. This makes a lasting contribution to increasing employment, expanding income opportunities for the population, and improving social welfare in the region. The project also serves to manage migration processes and support more balanced social development."

The executive head noted that the operation of this plant is not limited to energy production alone:

"The Bilasuvar Solar Power Plant also contributes to reducing carbon emissions, preserving ecological balance, and supporting national efforts in combating climate change."

Gurbatov stated that the main purpose of today's participation is to once again emphasize how important a role local and regional governance plays in the sustainable development agenda.
