Estonia ready to participate in global partnership for development of green cities

Estonia is ready to actively participate in the international partnership aimed at developing green cities, Ivo Jaanisoo, Deputy Secretary General on Living Environment and Circular Economy at the Estonian Ministry of Climate, said at a ministerial roundtable held during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, according to Report.

"Estonia plans to actively join the updated Greener Cities partnership program, which is being implemented jointly by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)," the Deputy Secretary-General emphasized.

He noted that Estonia expects to promote the concept of a circular economy, viewing it as a fundamental tool on the path to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

"Global urban planning practices should be based on nature-oriented solutions, rational resource use, and the modernization and renovation of existing housing stock rather than its demolition. This approach is aimed at reducing harmful emissions and restoring urban ecosystems," added Jaanisoo.
