The Zangazur Corridor will allow Azerbaijan to multiply its freight transportation volumes several times over, Emil Mammadov, adviser to the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, said at the 2nd Caspian International Forum on Transport, Transit and Logistics in Baku.
According to Report, he recalled that the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway has been operating at full capacity since June 2.
"Following recent construction and repair works, the route's capacity has increased from 1 million to 5 million tons of cargo per year. This is an important development that further strengthens Azerbaijan"s role in the development of the Middle Corridor," he said.
Speaking about the prospects of the Middle Corridor, he emphasized the importance of the Zangazur Corridor.
"The Zangazur Corridor is an important link that will significantly expand the country's transit and transport-logistics capabilities. Its opening will allow the volume of cargo transported through Azerbaijan to increase several times, and will also significantly enhance the capacity of the Middle Corridor," Mammadov noted.
