Elchin Yusubov: Khankandi to become a modern city for 80,000 people

Khankandi is expected to become one of the leading cities of the Karabakh region with a population of around 80,000 people, said Elchin Yusubov, the Azerbaijani President's Special Representative in Khankandi, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts, Report informs.

Yusubov made the remarks during the National Business Development Forum held in Khankandi on Tuesday.

He said work on the city's master plan is nearing completion and that detailed information will soon be presented to the public.

"Currently, the city's development strategy is being prepared with the participation of Western companies. One of the main directions of the plan is the development of Khankandi based on the concept of a youth city," he stated.

According to the special representative, strengthening education and social infrastructure has been identified as a key priority.

"In particular, large areas have been allocated for Karabakh University, and modern and comfortable conditions will be created for students studying there. In addition, students and academic staff are expected to make up approximately 12–15% of the city's total population," Yusubov noted.

He added that the project envisions transforming Khankandi into a modern urban center.

"Overall, Khankandi will acquire the image of a modern city, and all projects being implemented are aimed at ensuring the city's sustainable development in a short period of time," he said.
