Urban growth creates the threat of instability and resource scarcity, but these processes are not inevitable.
Report informs that Deen Sharp, a consultant at the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), said this during a discussion held as part of WUF13 in Baku.
According to him, even the best intentions to create an inclusive environment often run up against the real conditions to which people are forced to adapt, although inclusiveness is at the core of the UN approach.
"The tensions created by climate change and urbanization are not inevitable. Human action and will play a decisive role. Correlation does not mean causation," Sharp said.
