Construction of a 780-TEU сontainer ship begins in Baku

A keel-laying ceremony has been held at the Baku Shipyard for the first of two container vessels with a capacity of 780 TEU that will operate on the Caspian Sea.
According to Report, the project is being implemented as part of a strategic cooperation initiative between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates.
Each vessel will have the following specifications:
Length: 149.5 meters
Beam (width): 21 meters
Deadweight: 9,404 tons
Cargo hold capacity: 16,722 cubic meters
Container capacity: 780 TEU
The ships will be equipped with hybrid propulsion systems incorporating technologies from Wärtsilä and SCHOTTEL, aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
Delivery of the vessels is scheduled by 2028.
Once commissioned, the new container ships are expected to strengthen the Middle Corridor, a key trade route linking Asia and Europe through the Caspian Sea, the South Caucasus, and the Black Sea region.
