China's Lianyungang port advocates adding Baku to 'Three Nodes' logistics chain

The Chinese port of Lianyungang advocates including Baku in the Lianyungang-Khorgos-Aktau "Three Nodes" logistics chain, Jiang Wei, vice president for external relations at China's Lianyungang Port, stated during the international conference "The Role of Ports in Regional Connectivity and Strategic Cooperation" held in Baku, Report informs.

He recalled that starting in 2013, the Lianyungang port, together with Kazakhstan Railways, formed the operational model for the integration of the "Three Nodes," which includes the China-Kazakhstan logistics base in Lianyungang, the Dry Port in Khorgos, and the Aktau International Container Hub.

"The interaction of the Lianyungang port with Azerbaijan Railways and the Baku Port is steadily expanding. In 2024, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation, which clearly records the intention to use the resources of the 'Three Nodes' and Azerbaijan Railways for the joint development of multimodal transport routes," Jiang Wei noted.

"In 2025, the leaders of both sides held an in-depth exchange of views on organizing regular transportation and introducing digital solutions on the Lianyungang-Baku route. We expect, based on existing cooperation, to turn the Lianyungang-Aktau-Baku route into a truly sustainable, highly efficient, and competitive Trans-Caspian logistics product," he added.

According to him, the Lianyungang port expresses its readiness for joint work with Azerbaijan Railways, the Baku Port, and other partners along the route.

"Provided that data protection is ensured and the legislation of both countries is observed, starting with applied scenarios such as the exchange of information on international transportation, we propose gradually developing the cross-border exchange of logistics information and promoting the creation of a single Lianyungang-Khorgos-Aktau-Baku information chain," he added.
