Cecilia Vaca Jones: Unique pedestrian environment created in central Baku

A unique pedestrian environment has been created in the central part of Baku, Cecilia Vaca Jones, Executive Director of the Breathe Cities initiative of the Clean Air Fund, said during an event dedicated to the topic "New Urban Agenda: Integrating Air Quality and Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities" held within the framework of World Urban Forum 13 in Baku.

Report quotes her as saying that during a morning run in Baku, she was able to travel from her hotel to the seaside boulevard through pedestrian areas and green corridors with almost no need to cross automobile roads.

"This is a privilege that far from all cities possess. Therefore, I would like to congratulate Baku on this," she said.

Jones also noted the symbolism of holding a discussion on air quality specifically in Baku, which is known as the "City of Winds."

"Wind is probably the most tangible way to feel the air," she added.
