Brazil continues to experience serious housing challenges, which disproportionately impact low-income groups, particularly female-headed households, Brazil's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Manuel Montenegro, said during a ministerial roundtable discussion at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
"This is a reminder that housing is inextricably linked to issues of social, racial, and gender justice, and that behind every statistical figure lies the real lives of individuals and families who need protection and new opportunities.
Recently, Brazil has intensified and expanded systemic public policies aimed at transforming this situation. Another key priority for the country is creating housing solutions for areas affected by climate-related disasters, the frequency and scale of which are steadily increasing. While informal settlements in Brazil reflect an entrenched legacy of racism, discrimination, and inequality, these communities also represent spaces of self-organization, resilience, and collective action against urban challenges," the diplomat emphasized.
