Baku and Astana discuss expanding transit of Kazakh energy resources via Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan discussed prospects for developing transport and logistics cooperation, including the transit of Kazakh energy resources through Azerbaijan.

Report informs, citing the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Azerbaijan, that the discussions took place during a meeting between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Baku Alim Bayel.

The sides discussed the construction of a joint intermodal terminal at the Port of Alat, the supply of Kazakh locomotives and railcars to Azerbaijan, the construction of vessels at the Baku Shipyard for Kazakhstan, as well as further development of the joint Baku Grain Terminal at the Port of Hovsan.

The sides also discussed increasing the transit of Kazakh energy resources through Azerbaijan, as well as cooperation in trade, economic and investment areas.

Particular attention was paid to implementing joint projects and strengthening economic and industrial cooperation through the joint investment fund established in 2024. The sides noted that establishing joint production facilities would help increase trade turnover between the two countries.

Bayel highlighted the strong momentum in bilateral relations and thanked the Azerbaijani side for supporting Kazakhstan's initiative to upgrade the level of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

In turn, Sharifov said he would make every effort to further strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Since 2026, the commission has been co-chaired by Kazakhstan's First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlibek Nalybayev and Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov.
