Customs authorities of Azerbaijan and Georgia will carry out synchronized inspections of vehicles at a new border crossing point to be established between the two countries, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Colonel General of the Customs Service Shahin Baghirov, said in an interview with Report and İctimai TV.
According to Baghirov, project work is currently underway on the Azerbaijani-Georgian border, and a site is being selected for the construction of the new checkpoint. Technical issues will be addressed in the subsequent stages of the project.
"The new checkpoint will fully comply with modern standards, and a joint control mechanism will be implemented there. In other words, the customs services of Azerbaijan and Georgia will operate in close proximity to each other, allowing vehicle inspections to be conducted simultaneously," Baghirov said.
He outlined several advantages of the system.
"Such a mechanism will not only prevent time losses but will also improve the quality of the inspection process, create conditions for the rapid identification of potential risks, and increase service efficiency. At the same time, it will provide additional opportunities to facilitate the passage of vehicles," he noted.
