Azerbaijan taking strategic steps to combat floods, mudflows

Important strategic steps are being taken in Baku and the regions of Azerbaijan to combat mudflows and floods, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA) Khayyam Mammadov stated on the second day of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.

He emphasized that an increase in the intensity of mudflows and floods has been observed in recent years.

"In order to manage the generated mudflow waters, a number of important strategic steps have been taken. At the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, a State Program for 2026–2035 has been announced to improve water supply, stormwater, and wastewater systems in the city of Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula. In general, the construction of 12 new sewage collectors with a total length of 346 km, the repair and restoration of existing infrastructure, as well as the separation of stormwater and wastewater systems are envisaged," he noted.
