Azerbaijan sees 34% surge in international freight transport

In January–June 2026, the volume of international freight transport in Azerbaijan increased by 34% year-on-year (YoY), thanks to projects implemented by the Azerbaijan International Road Carriers Association (ABADA) and partner organizations, ABADA Secretary General Kanan Gurbanov told journalists, Report informs.

Gurbanov noted that electronic permit systems have already been introduced with Türkiye, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

"Russia and Georgia will soon join this system. In addition, joint projects with Turkmenistan on e-TIR and with the State Customs Committee and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) on e-CMR are being implemented," he said.

The official added that cooperation has expanded within the Union of Road Transport Associations in the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Region (BSEC-URTA) and the Union of Associations of International Road Carriers in the Turkic Region (OTS-URTA).

"We have also actively participated in the work of Azerbaijan's mixed commissions with Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, and Georgia," Gurbanov stated.
