Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan to introduce electronic permits for road transport from 2027

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will fully abandon paper-based permits for international road transportation from 2027 and switch exclusively to electronic document processing through the e-Permit system.

According to Report, citing the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, the agreement was reached following a meeting of the Kazakhstan–Azerbaijan Mixed Commission on International Road Transport held in Baku.

The decision was made taking into account the positive experience of implementing digital technologies and the successful use of electronic permits in international road transportation.

Participants of the meeting noted that the transition to electronic document management will reduce administrative procedures, increase transparency in the transport process, and speed up the processing of international shipments.

The sides also discussed the development of bilateral and transit freight transportation. It was noted that transport volumes between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan continue to grow steadily, and both countries play an important role in the development of international transport corridors.

To meet the growing demand of carriers, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan agreed to additionally exchange 6,000 electronic permits for 2026.

In addition, the preliminary quota of permits for 2027 has been agreed at 28,000 units, which is 12,000 more compared to the previous period. According to the parties, the increase in the quota will further contribute to the development of international road transport and trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Following the meeting, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan confirmed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation in the transport sector and develop partnership in the field of international road transportation.
