Azerbaijan expects transit freight volumes to rise to 16M tons in 2026

The volume of cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor is projected to reach approximately 5.5 million tons in 2026, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov said at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026), Report informs.

"Azerbaijan's transit cargo transportation indicators have increased significantly in recent years, and in 2026 we forecast their growth to over 16 million tons, which is almost triple the figures of the pre-pandemic year of 2019. Along the Middle Corridor alone, we expect cargo volumes to total around 5.5 million tons in 2026, while the number of regular block trains from China is projected to rise to approximately 600," the deputy minister noted.

According to estimates by international organizations, cargo transportation volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) could reach approximately 11 million tons by 2030, and container transit figures may increase to an estimated 900,000 TEUs per year by 2040.
