The concept of the modern city is transforming, and today it is assessed not only by its size or level of urbanization, but by its ability to provide a dignified life, justice, and equal opportunities for all citizens, Asia Abdel Mutaleb Yaghi, chair of the "I AM HUMAN" Society for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Jordan), said at the General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku, Report informs.
According to her, in times of global crises, the issue of inclusivity becomes critical, as gaps in systems and services are exposed, and access to information and services often becomes a matter of survival for people.
Yaghi emphasized the need to create flexible digital systems, organized community structures, rapid response mechanisms, and strengthened partnerships with civil society organizations.
"Ultimately, cities are not measured by size and technology, but by their ability to be humane and inclusive. Such cities are stronger, more stable, and better prepared for the challenges of the future," Yaghi noted.
In conclusion, the Jordanian human rights activist added that the transition to such a development model requires strong political will and a clear understanding that the true center and meaning of any metropolis' existence is people.
