Ariobowo: Schools near highways in Vietnam cause accidents

In some provinces of Vietnam, the proximity of schools to highways leads to accidents, Atsani Ariobowo, Director of Child and Youth Health at the FIA Foundation, said at the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, one of the provinces with many such schools is Haizhong: "Here, schools are remembered for tragic incidents where children lost their lives. The school is located near a regional road, and children crossing the same path as trucks and cars pose a major risk for the community."

Ariobowo noted that, as a result, the school joined a coalition led by the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation, received training, adopted the Safe School Zone model, and gained support from the National Road Safety Committee together with the Ministry of Construction:

"This process started with two schools and expanded over seven years to 36 schools across the province. Later, the ministry approved the initiative for implementation in all 67 provinces of the country."

He emphasized that this project should also be applied in other countries and cities facing similar problems.
