The airport being built within the Alat Free Economic Zone in Azerbaijan may begin operations in early 2027, Ismayil Manafov, deputy chairman of the Alat Free Economic Zone, said at the Uzbek-Azerbaijani Forum of Industrial and Economic Zones, according to a Report correspondent from Tashkent.
"The international airport we are building within the Alat Free Economic Zone will encompass three key areas: a cargo terminal, business aviation, and low-cost airline services," Manafov noted.
He stated that the future airport will cover over 750 hectares, and its cargo throughput capacity will reach 500,000 tons per year in the first phase.
"This figure may subsequently increase to 1.5-2 million tons per year. Completion of the airport is planned for this year, after which the facility may become operational in early 2027," he added.
