Africa's urban population may increase by 900M by 2050

Up to 900 million new residents will move to African cities by 2050, Anaclaudia Rossbach, executive director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said at the regional ministerial meeting for Africa at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

"Urbanization on the African continent is no longer a distant prospect. Today, half of Africa's population lives in cities, and by 2050, the number of urban residents may reach 900 million. I urge close attention to be paid not only to the largest megacities but also to small and medium-sized cities, which are experiencing rapid growth and require an integrated approach to urban planning," Rossbach noted.
