Azerbaijan's new locomotives purchased from China will be used for cargo transportation along international transport corridors, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, Head of the Public Relations Department at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), told journalists, Report informs.
Hajiyev highlighted that the seven modern AC50 freight locomotives manufactured by CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd are equipped with advanced technologies and innovative traction systems, distinguished by high pulling power and large fuel capacity.
"These locomotives allow for more efficient and safer operation of heavy freight trains. The mainline diesel locomotives are fitted with modern control and safety systems. A 90‑day maintenance cycle ensures more reliable and uninterrupted operation, while the main tank's capacity of 2,000 liters of compressed air and the presence of two compressors enable the transportation of longer trains," he said.
The official also pointed out that two locomotives can be coupled together and operated by a single crew, which increases freight capacity, improves operational efficiency in handling heavy trains, and ensures more effective use of locomotives:
"The AC50 model meets the UIC IIIA environmental standards. This allows the locomotives to be freely used in areas with strict emission requirements. The new locomotives will be deployed for freight transport along international corridors. Azerbaijan Railways will continue upgrading its locomotive fleet, enhancing technical capabilities for both freight and passenger transport, and ensuring flexible and safe services for growing cargo flows. At the next stage, negotiations are underway to purchase 14 additional freight locomotives."
