The 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), currently underway in Baku, has become the largest in the history of this global event, Aditya Kumar, UN-Habitat Consultant and Senior Stakeholder Engagement Expert, said at the opening ceremony of the WUF13 assemblies in Baku, Report informs.
The expert emphasized that the key objective of the assemblies is to bring together community representatives, local authorities, and partner organizations in a single venue to jointly find solutions to global urban challenges.
"Please take this message with you and spread it. Not everyone was able to come to Baku, but we have many community partners, local and regional authorities. It is important that the message from Baku reaches as many people as possible around the world," Kumar urged.
He also noted that over the past six months, UN-Habitat has engaged with more than 3,000 stakeholders, communities, and organizations to identify key themes for WUF13.
According to the expert, the results of the assemblies will form the basis of the Baku Action Plan – a document that will consolidate the proposals and opinions of the forum participants for further advancement at the level of governments and international organizations.
"This innovative document, created following the conference, will consolidate and systematize the views of all participants – from the assemblies and roundtables to the partnership discussions. The document will be available to all of you for further discussion and promotion, both at the government level and within your own organizations and institutions," the UN-Habitat representative concluded.
