Accounts Chamber: Almost 40% of roads in Azerbaijan are unsafe

Although, over the years, there has been an increase in the length of roads with asphalt concrete pavement, which are on the balance sheet of the State Automobile Roads Agency of Azerbaijan (AAYDA), as of the end of 2020, the length of roads without asphalt concrete pavement amounted to 6,713.3 km, the Accounts Chamber said, Report informs.

According to the Accounts Chamber, on a significant section of roads (37.9%), the necessary conditions have not yet been created for a more comfortable and safe movement of road users.

In 2020, the AAYDA allocated 29.8 million manats for payments on bank loans (including 19.8 million manats for the principal amount of loans, 9.9 million manats for interest), which created certain restrictions in the reimbursement of expenses related to use and maintenance (repair) of motor roads and adjacent territories.
