Farid Aliyev: Azerbaijan to expand pharmaceutical production and export destinations

Pharmaceutical products manufactured in Azerbaijan could be supplied to a number of foreign countries, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Georgia, Farid Aliyev, General Director of Gen Pharma Caucasus Manufacturing Operations LLC, a resident of the Pirallahi Industrial Park, told Report.

According to him, the company's main shareholder, with a 66% stake, is leading Turkish pharmaceutical manufacturer Gen İlaç ve Sağlık Ürünleri Sanayi A.Ş.

"The remaining shares are held by the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund OJSC (29%) and Turkish company SİA Pharmaceuticals (5%). As a resident of the industrial park, the company has been exempted from more than AZN 7 million in VAT and customs duties. The annual production capacity of the facility, located on an area of 5.2 hectares, is 60 million packages of medicines, including 2.5 billion tablets and capsules. The facility will produce cardiovascular, neurological, urological, diabetological and gastroenterological medicines, painkillers, antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals," he said.

Aliyev noted that the plant is equipped with machinery from leading companies in the US, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, China, Denmark, Sweden and Türkiye, enabling it to manufacture medicines in line with high international standards.

He stressed that 178 people would have permanent jobs at the facility.

"Local production facilitates public access to high-quality medicines and makes them more affordable. Our primary focus is the domestic market. The company"s development plans include increasing production, localizing the manufacture of more than 500 medicines over the next five years, meeting domestic demand to the greatest extent possible, and expanding the geography of exports. In addition, an official training facility has been established at the plant for Karabakh University and Azerbaijan Medical University," Aliyev said.
