Twenty-four teams representing 20 countries will participate in the Baku-Khankendi Azerbaijan Cycling Race, which will start on May 10, First Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Baku-Khankendi Azerbaijan Cycling Race, Sahib Alakbarov, said at a press conference, Report informs.
The official spoke about the organization of the race: "Previously, such international races were successfully held in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, they were later suspended due to certain problems. This year, we found the opportunity to restore the races. We liberated the occupied territories. We decided to expand the geography of the race and start it in Baku and finish in Khankendi. The race, consisting of 5 stages, passes through 21 cities of Azerbaijan."
Alakbarov also provided information about the number of teams: "The maximum number of teams allowed in the races is 25. We wanted more teams. Due to well-known events, several teams refused to come to the race, and we replaced them with others. Twenty-four teams will start the race from tomorrow."
"We had a very good team. Three years after its creation, it made itself known to the entire world. Unfortunately, it later fell apart. Creating a team is not a matter of one year. We decided to compete with the national team for now. This team has participated in many races and has certain experience. Currently, we have mobilized all our resources. We have also engaged specialists from foreign countries. We have branches in the regions. We have also engaged coaches for them."
The Baku–Khankendi Azerbaijan Cycling Race will start on May 10, with 24 teams from 20 countries participating. The race will last five days, aiming to contribute to the development of cycling in Azerbaijan, enhance the country's reputation in international sports arenas, and promote the region's sports tourism potential.
