Plushenko earns right to represent Azerbaijan at int'l competitions

Figure skater Alexander Plushenko will compete in international competitions under the Azerbaijani flag starting in the 2026/2027 season, Report informs referring to the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation.

The appeal to the International Skating Union was approved, and the athlete has been officially cleared to represent Azerbaijan internationally.

The Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation stated that it will continue its effective work to develop figure skating and other winter sports, attract promising athletes, train national talent, and further strengthen Azerbaijan's position in the international sports community.

The Russian Figure Skating Federation previously approved Alexander Plushenko's transfer to the Azerbaijani national team.
