Azerbaijani boxer Subhan Mammadov crowned European champion

Azerbaijani boxer Subhan Mammadov has been crowned European champion.

The Azerbaijan Boxing Federation told Report that Mammadov, who competes in the 50 kg weight category, won the title in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

Mammadov, the U23 European champion, defeated Russia's Bair Batlayev in the final.

Winning all three rounds, Mammadov secured a 4:1 victory on the judges' scorecards (30:27, 29:28, 28:29, 30:27, 29:28) to claim the European Championship gold medal, with the Azerbaijani national anthem played in Sofia.

Earlier, Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) also reached the final. The world championship medalist defeated England's Calum Maykin 4:1 (28:29, 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28) in the semifinals. Jafarov will face Russia's Ismail Mutsolgov in the final tomorrow.

Amin Mammadzada (55 kg) finished the European Championship with a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Mammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) also claimed a bronze medal a day earlier. On September 25, the final day of the championship, Jafarov and Nabi Iskandarov (70 kg) will compete in their respective finals.
