Azerbaijan to hold first national para swimming championship

Azerbaijan will hold its first national para swimming championship, organized by the National Paralympic Committee with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The National Paralympic Committee told Report that the tournament will take place on June 18 at the Sumgayit Paralympic Sports Complex of the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.

Around 30 para swimmers will compete in nine categories.

The main purpose of the competition is to encourage people with disabilities to engage in sports, support the development of their athletic skills and contribute to the formation of a new generation of para swimmers who will be able to successfully represent Azerbaijan at international competitions in the future.

The first national para swimming championship is important in terms of identifying potential members of the national team, discovering new talents and forming a reserve pool of athletes in this sport.
