Azerbaijan finish 13th in women's sabre team event at World Championships

The Fencing World Championships have concluded in Hong Kong, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan Fencing Federation.

Azerbaijan's women's sabre team of Anna Bashta, Palina Kaspiarovich, Sabina Karimova and Zarifa Huseynova finished 13th.

The Azerbaijani team defeated Canada 45-34 in their opening match before losing 32-45 to reigning world champions Hungary in the contest for a place in the quarterfinals.

In the classification matches for 9th-16th places, Azerbaijan lost 34-45 to Poland but defeated Hong Kong 45-40 and Bulgaria 45-36 to secure 13th place among 28 teams.

In the men's sabre team event, Azerbaijan's Murad Akbarov, Saleh Mammadov, Maqsud Huseynli and Abbas Huseynov finished 30th.

The team beat Kuwait 45-39 in the opening round before losing 27-45 to Hungary in the match for a place in the last 16.
