UN Special Rapporteur on Judges and Lawyers to visit Azerbaijan

Margaret Satterthwaite, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, is set to visit Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan Union of Judges (AUJ).

From October 11 to 17, Baku will host the 67th General Assembly of the International Association of Judges (IAJ). The prestigious event will bring together nearly 300 judges, legal experts, and representatives of international organizations from 71 countries.

In connection with the event, UN Special Rapporteur Margaret Satterthwaite will also travel to Baku. Her participation in the international conference-focused on the relationship between the judiciary and other branches of government-will highlight the role of courts in upholding the rule of law.

The Azerbaijan Union of Judges has been a member of the IAJ since 2009. The 2025 General Assembly in Baku will also include elections for the association's governing bodies and the selection of its next president.
