Baku. 6 March . REPORT.AZ/ "The number of prisoners in Azerbaijan has dropped. While in 2015, the number of detainees in the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice exceeded 24,000, in 2017, this figure was 21,800 in 2018," Chief of Justice Ministry's inspectorate on control over the execution of punishments Malik Alakbarov said.
Report informs that he spoke at a meeting with journalists held at the Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice.
"The gap is close to 3,000. It means there is no need for the activity of three prisons. It all comes from the decree on humanization of punishments signed by President Ilham Aliyev," Alakbarov said.
