SESRIC: Urban population in OIC countries to reach 1.4 billion by 2035

Green technologies are the key to sustainable urban development in countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stated Abu Naser Huda, Director of the Information and Information Technology Department at SESRIC (Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries), during a session at the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

He said that OIC member countries are experiencing rapid urbanization: the urban population has already exceeded 1 billion people and is expected to reach 1.4 billion by 2035.

"Green technologies-renewable energy, smart infrastructure, and climate-resilient urban planning-are a necessary response to the growing pressure on urban housing, transportation, water supply, and energy systems," Huda stated.
