NYT: Scientists say fears about AI are 'greatly exaggerated'

Fears that artificial intelligence (AI) technology could eventually destroy humanity are "greatly exaggerated," according to a number of scientists around the world.

Report informs via The New York Times that there has long been a group among technology company executives and researchers developing AI systems who have warned of the technology"s potential to destroy humanity.

"Many of the world's leading researchers do not share these views. They argue that the fears are greatly exaggerated," the article says.

The authors noted that the potential risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence may indeed be cause for concern. However, they stressed that humanity already faces numerous global threats that could affect its survival. These include major asteroid impacts, new pandemics, thermonuclear conflict, climate change, solar activity, environmental disasters and the possible onset of a new ice age.
