Azerbaijani lawmaker: AI should serve people, not enslave them

Member of Parliament Nagif Hamzayev believes it is important to manage artificial intelligence (AI) and benefit from its advantages without becoming dependent on it.

According to Report, speaking at the opening ceremony of the Artificial Intelligence Youth Forum in Baku, he said the Azerbaijani government has taken important steps in the development of AI, but the country should not stop there.

"Priority should be given to awareness and education. Unfortunately, AI is sometimes used in harmful ways, which ultimately violates human rights and encourages laziness among young people. But this is not a reason to fall behind in development; rather, it is a reason to direct the technology toward positive purposes," he said.

Hamzayev noted that everyone should use AI for self-improvement, improving quality of life, and expanding opportunities.

"It is impossible to fully control this sphere, as these tools are not in our hands. We are compelled to cooperate with them and create certain joint tools. Information provided by artificial intelligence should not be fully trusted. It must be verified before use," the lawmaker added.
