Ayaz Museyibov: GIS technologies play key role in restoration of liberated Azerbaijani territories

Wide opportunities for the use of geographic information systems (GIS) are opening up as part of the major reconstruction work carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications Ayaz Museyibov said during the closing ceremony and awarding of the winners of GIS-Tech Marathon 2025, Report informs.

He added that there is a shortage of specialists in the field of GIS in Azerbaijan, despite the high demand for such personnel.

"Today, GIS technologies allow making more accurate and prompt decisions in managing emergency situations and natural resources. Their application covers a wide range of areas - from ecology to urban planning. In Azerbaijan, GIS are actively used both in government projects and in the private sector," Museyibov noted.

He emphasized that the development and implementation of geographic information systems is of strategic importance for the country's socio-economic progress and the construction of sustainable management models: "GIS play an irreplaceable role in environmental monitoring, transport infrastructure management and urban space planning."
