WHO: Azerbaijan isn't considered endemic area for hantavirus

Azerbaijan is not classified as an endemic region for hantavirus, and rodents living in the country have not been found to carry the virus, Report informs, citing the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the WHO, hantavirus infection is therefore not included in routine laboratory testing panels in Azerbaijan.

"Nevertheless, Azerbaijan has full technical capacity to test for hantavirus in both human and animal health laboratories. The Ministry of Health follows WHO recommendations and cooperates closely with the organization. If necessary – for example, in individuals showing clinical symptoms or arriving from epidemiologically risky countries – examinations will be organized in line with clinical protocols," the statement said.
