Water in plastic bottles can be harmful to health, Russian biochemist Maria Kuleshova told Prime News Agency, Report informs.
Plastic has a negative impact on the immune system and liver function, she said. Also, if the bottle is exposed to the sun for some time, then carcinogenic substances formed in the package are released into the water.
Another problem, according to Kuleshova, is the absence of useful minerals in bottled water, in particular magnesium and zinc. And in the case of purification using the reverse osmosis method, the water becomes distilled-like in terms of characteristics.
However, there were also cases when an excess of pathogens, nitrates, poisonous mercury, and lead were found in drinking water.
