Azerbaijan is taking measures to address the impact of climate change on health, Ramig Guliyev, head of the Health Policy Department at the Ministry of Health, said during a panel session held as part of Baku Climate Action Week 2026.
Report quotes him as saying the climate crisis is also a health crisis, with human health at the forefront of its consequences.
"Widely observed consequences include extreme weather events and diseases. Health threats are associated with rising temperatures, increased air pollution, particularly in urban areas, extreme weather events, as well as changes in precipitation patterns, leading to water quality problems and shortages. The impact of climate change on the environment is intensifying every day, causing concern among the international community. Our country has also not remained on the sidelines of these global processes," he said.
Guliyev noted that more than 15 important side events dedicated to health issues were held in Baku during COP29.
He also said that Azerbaijan is taking measures to reduce climate-related health risks.
"Currently, Azerbaijan has put forward a number of initiatives aimed at adapting to the impacts of climate change and mitigating their effects. We are taking steps to reduce emissions, as well as to increase the resilience of our hospitals to climate risks," Guliyev said.
