Azerbaijan Health Ministry, ICMP discuss forensic cooperation

A meeting has been held at Azerbaijan's Health Ministry with a delegation led by Kathryne Bomberger, director-general of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), who is on a visit to Azerbaijan.

The Health Ministry told Report that the meeting discussed prospects for developing cooperation in forensic medical examination, DNA analysis, strengthening laboratory capacity, specialist training and knowledge exchange.

It was noted that the search for missing persons, their identification and the application of modern scientific approaches in this field are of particular humanitarian importance. The meeting also emphasized that studying international experience and applying innovative methods help improve the effectiveness of the work being carried out.

Health Minister Teymur Musayev said relevant state institutions were working in a coordinated manner in search operations conducted in the liberated territories and in the process of identifying human remains found there. The minister stressed that cooperation with the ICMP makes an important contribution to this area.

ICMP Director-General Bomberger praised the work carried out in Azerbaijan to clarify the fate of missing persons and said her organization was ready to continue providing technical and expert support to the country.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest and reviewed prospects for future cooperation.
