Zakia Ighil: Africa should be seen as strategic partner, not aid recipient

Africa should no longer be viewed exclusively through the lens of aid - rather, as a strategic partner and a continent of opportunities, stated the Ambassador of Algeria to Azerbaijan, Zakia Ighil, at the event dedicated to Africa Day 2026: "Rising Continent, Emerging Partnerships" in Baku, Report informs.

According to the diplomat, Africa's future influence will depend on expanding intra-regional trade, facilitating movement, and more active implementation of the mechanisms of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

"The development of transport corridors, logistics, energy, and digital infrastructure is of great importance for enhancing Africa's competitiveness and economic integration. At the same time, economic diversification and industrial development remain key objectives," Ighil said.

According to the diplomat, the continent's rich natural and human resources should contribute to industrial growth, innovation, and the creation of high value-added products.

The Ambassador emphasized that peace, stability, and effective governance remain the foundation of sustainable development, and solutions based on African leadership play a key role in ensuring security, especially in regions with protracted crises.
